What do you get for a father who has everything or ‘wants nothing’ on Father’s Day? You could make a donation to a cause he cares about, but you want to get him a physical gift that shows how much you care about him and appreciate all that he does for you and your family.

Well, instead of buying another tool for his collection or a trendy tech widget off Amazon, what about buying a gift that is made right here in Canada that has a meaningful connection to his pastimes, hobbies, job or dreams – we’re sure he’ll appreciate it. The items here may seem a bit pricey, but you’ll be getting longer-lasting quality, supporting local small businesses and fair employment standards.

For the grill master – Hockey Stick Wooden BBQ Scraper ($24.99)

Just in time for grilling season, get Dad a wooden BBQ scraper by Harmsen’s Hockey.

As you scrape away the bits off a hot BBQ’s grill, grooves will burn into the hardwood head, allowing you to scrape in between the grills as well. This way, you don’t need to worry about the bristles on a typical brush coming loose and potentially being injested.

What’s really cool is that the handle is made of a repurposed game-used, pro model hockey stick and you can choose your Dad’s favorite hockey stick brand such as Bauer, CCM and Warrior.

The hanging loop is made of skate laces which is a great touch too! You won’t find anything quite like it!

For the hockey lover – Hockey Stick Muskoka Chair ($314)

Same materials – bigger vision. If you’re looking for a substantial gift that everyone can pitch in for, The Hockey Stick Muskoka Chair is the perfect addition to the patio, cottage or garage where a hockey loving Dad can sit back, enjoy a bevvy or wait for the burgers to finish. The trouble is, when Dad gets up, how will you determine who gets to sit in it next?

For the cool guy – Loch Effects Wood Sunglasses ($239)

These beautiful wood sunglasses are handcrafted from old timbers that are reclaimed from the bottom of the Great Lakes and rivers by scuba divers. The logs are some of the many lost during the logging boom hundreds of years ago and have been lying underwater – preserved in a low-light, near-zero oxygen environment.

The wood grains in the old-growth underwater timber are very dense and durable since the sap and resin has been forced out of it by water pressure. The wood can also absorb tannins and minerals from the surrounding soil and water, taking on unique grey, gold and olive hues. This makes each pair of shades a unique, heirloom-level piece with a deep connection to Canada’s history.

The glasses are ethically and sustainably handmade in Campbellford, ON by brothers Dan and Tim Waggoner.

Not sure which ones to go with? They’ll deliver 3 frames of your choice to your home to try on for 3 days. Keep the ones you like, or none at all and send the rest back – they pay all the shipping costs! They also make prescription eyeglasses.
