Tanjore North Indian Cuisine offers takeout and delivery through Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes.

In our experience, the wait time for takeout is around 40 minutes – though you may want to add a couple minutes to their estimate if you don’t want to wait around when you get there.

Full menu and prices

Tanjore makes the best takeout Indian food in Belleville. The smells will get your mouth watering and the flavours are strong and leave you wanting more.

In general, their flavours are on the milder and richer end – sweeter, creamier and 1-dimensional than sharper, well-spiced and hotter. You can request that your food be spicy or mild, but these requests have been met with mixed results as their food starts on the very mild side. Be as explicit as possible when requesting extra spice.

Recommended: The Chicken Tikka and Tandoori Chicken were well-marinated, very tasty and tender. The garlic naan is also very good and was well seasoned and had identifiable pieces of garlic.

Pretty good: The vegetable pakoras, onion bajji and samosas were quite mild and not very flavourful, but were well fried and very crispy – the bajji still had a crunch the next morning. They came with a chutney dip with a strong tang.

Not for everyone: Their tomato and cream based Paneer Makhni and Butter Chicken are very, very mild and heavy on the cream with little depth of flavour. Some reviews say it reminds them of Campbell’s tomato soup if you added milk.

The prices of their entrees are 30% to 40% lower than their main competition for a comparable portion, though their entrees do not come with basmati rice – it must be ordered separately for $6, which brings their prices in-line with their competitors. So the final price depends on how much you want rice with your meal.

Don’t be scared off by their lower Google rating – they have a 4.5 rating on Uber Eats with 92 reviews. Almost all of their 30ish 1-star reviews are about the customer service, rather than the food. And most of them are from customers who seem to have trouble reading, comprehending and following the restaurant’s guidelines and rules for ordering, dining in and hygiene practices.

While I would say that the atmosphere isn’t the warmest and the service is average and not very welcoming, running a business in these times is not easy and I appreciate their efficient and straight-to-business approach.
