Free resources and activity ideas
Sometimes great advice can be worth so much more than a physical item. Remember to take a look at the Canadian government’s website, your province’s website, and also your local municipality’s website for free prenatal and postnatal information and health programs.
The Canadian Pediatric Society also has a wealth of knowledge on their website including community-based support programs for parents (by province) and a list of resources and links on various children’s health topics that will help every Canadian parent gather the information they need.
Many hospitals offer free lactation consultant services. If you would like to breastfeed but have questions or are finding it difficult, ask your hospital if they provide free support.
Are you worried that your child’s car seat may not be properly installed? St. John Ambulance provides free car seat clinics in Ontario. You can also check with your city to see if they provide free car seat clinics.
A lot of cities also provide a list of free classes or supervised drop-in’s where you can bring your little one to socialize with others in their age group. These recreation programs are amazing because they help your child develop their fine and gross motor skills while they play and create.
You should also look up local companies that offer parent and tot classes in your neighbourhood as many of them will offer you your first class for free. Some examples of classes you can do with you little one are: music, dance, gymnastics, postnatal yoga, or postnatal pilates classes.
If your child loves reading books, take them for a visit to a library in your area. You most likely know that libraries allow you to borrow books for free, but did you also know that there are often programs where you’ll get to enjoy story time, nursery rhymes, and singing too?
Important note
If this is not your first child, some of these offers may not be available to you if you have already received them in the past for a previous child. Remember that current offers are subject to change.
